Barry Wolfson is Greystone’s Chief FHA Underwriter. In this role, he reviews concept packages and underwriter’s narratives on all applications submitted to HUD. He also answers underwriters’ and originators’ questions on all aspects of HUD financing and assists them in structuring complex transactions. He created Greystone’s sizing and underwriting spreadsheets and a system of automated creation of large parts of the concept packages and underwriters narratives from the spreadsheets. He is also responsible for loan lead generation for Greystone’s originators.
Prior to Greystone, he was Managing Law Partner/Underwriter’s Counsel at the law firm of Wolfson and Frankel; Underwriter’s Counsel at the law firm of Squire Patton Boggs; and Bond and Underwriter’s Counsel at The Cavanagh Law Firm. He also acted as a consultant to the Arizona Housing Finance Review Board and the Arizona and New Mexico legislatures on housing bond finance.
He received a J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law and a B.A. from John Hopkins University (Magna Cum Laude). He also attended the Universitė de Lyon (Lyon, France) and the Graduate History of Art Program at Arizona State University.
He is the author of “Housing Bond Finance” (Weekly Credit Markets); “Housing Finance under the Mortgage Subsidy Bond Tax Act” (The Bond Buyer), Complete Book of C Programming (Prentice Hall) and various other publications.
